7/ Senate Offers Legislative Expertise to Support Palestinian Labor Sector
Amman, May 22 (Petra) – Senate President Faisal Fayez on Thursday underlined the Upper House's commitment to providing its legislative and parliamentary expertise to support the Palestinian people, particularly in labor-related matters and legislative development across various sectors. Fayez’s remarks came during a meeting with Palestinian Minister of Labor Inas Attari, accompanied by representatives of the tripartite labor partners government, workers, and employers. Senator Issa Murad, Chairman of the Senate Labor and Social Development Committee, also attended the meeting. Fayez underscored the Senate Labor Committee’s readiness to extend legal and technical advisory support to the Palestinian side, particularly in matters concerning labor rights and social security. He noted the importance of assisting Palestinian institutions in drafting a comprehensive and modern social security law. He reiterated Jordan’s unwavering support for the Palestinian people in light of the ongoing Israeli aggression on the Gaza Strip and the occupied West Bank. Fayez emphasized that Jordan, under the leadership of His Majesty King Abdullah II, remains steadfast in defending the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people and continues to exert diplomatic efforts at the Arab and international levels to halt the aggression and advance a political solution to the Palestinian issue. Fayez also highlighted His Majesty’s direct supervision of Jordan’s humanitarian response, including the delivery of aid to the besieged Gaza Strip, the maintenance of military field hospitals in Palestinian territories, and firm opposition to Israeli expansionist policies and forced displacement. He called for enhanced coordination among Arab trade unions to protect Palestinian workers, urging the international community and the International Labor Organization to fulfill their moral and legal obligations. He stressed the need to pressure Israel to abide by international conventions protecting workers’ rights and to ensure a just and secure working environment for Palestinian laborers in accordance with international legal standards. For her part, Attari praised Jordan’s historic and principled stance, led by His Majesty King Abdullah II, in unwavering support of the Palestinian people and their just cause. She affirmed the significance of Jordan's role in strengthening Palestinian resilience and commended the depth of bilateral cooperation. Attari expressed appreciation for Jordan’s technical expertise, particularly in the labor and social security sectors, and highlighted the importance of benefiting from Jordanian experience in drafting modern legislation and training technical personnel.
