24/ Deputizing for Prince Ali, Momani inaugurates World Social Media Forum

Amman, November 26 (Petra) - Deputizing for His Royal Highness Prince Ali bin Al Hussein, Minister of Government Communication, Dr. Mohammad Momani, inaugurated the World Social Media Forum, "ICON Summit 2025," on Wednesday.

The event highlights digital transformations and their accelerating role in shaping the future of media and content creation.

The opening ceremony, held in Amman, witnessed "wide participation" from representatives of local, Arab, and international media outlets, as well as a select group of media professionals, content creators, and experts from various Arab countries.

Delivering his address at the opening session, Momani conveyed greetings of His Royal Highness Prince Ali bin Al Hussein and his appreciation for the participants' efforts in promoting dialogue on the future of media and digital platforms in a world that is experiencing rapid technological shifts and convergence, which are reshaping traditional communication models.

Momani, who is the Official Government Spokesperson, noted the forum reflects the Kingdom's vision for developing its digital and media environment, with the support and guidance of His Majesty King Abdullah II and His Royal Highness Crown Prince Al Hussein bin Abdullah II, who have placed the digital future and technological innovation at the "heart of the country's priorities."

The forum, he noted, represents a "pivotal" moment for redefining the complementary relationship between traditional media and social media platforms to protect the truth, strengthen public awareness, and guarantee the citizen's right to access information.

Traditional media is characterized by accuracy, professionalism, and in-depth content, while digital platforms offer speed of access, wide reach, and audience interaction, which makes integration of the two spectra a necessity that requires harnessing modern technologies, artificial intelligence, and digital analytics to produce a sound and responsible media message, he pointed out.

Momani referred to the shared challenges within the digital space, mainly spread of misinformation, the rise of hate speech, the increasing violations of privacy, and the risks associated with unregulated algorithms.

Momani also said confronting these challenges requires collective responsibility and coordination between governments, media institutions, technology companies, and civil society.

Addressing national efforts in this context, he stated the Ministry of Government Communication is working to develop a "modern" communication system based on transparency, building public trust, disseminating accurate information in a timely manner, and supporting positive and responsible content, while simultaneously promoting innovation and entrepreneurship in digital media.

Additionally, he highlighted the pivotal role of youth in leading the digital transformation, given their significant presence and influence on social media platforms.

Momani noted importance of media and information literacy training and education to produce responsible content to enrich the knowledge landscape.

Momani called on global media institutions, international technology platforms, and pioneering companies to strengthen their cooperation with Jordan in media innovation projects, develop tools to counter digital misinformation, support business accelerators, and train young talent, which is the future of media is based on cross-border partnerships.

The launching ceremony featured specialized panel discussions on diverse issues, primarily the session on "Journalism in a Post-Platform World," which explored shifts in audience behavior, the dominance of algorithms in news flow, new newsroom operating models, and the role of artificial intelligence in enhancing the accuracy and speed of content.

Concluding its activities, the forum wrapped up with an awards ceremony and a photo opportunity, as well as the presentation of the Peacock Awards.
