29/ Foreign Ministry follows up on circumstances behind killing of two Jordanians  recruited in Russian army

Amman, Nov. 27 (Petra)-- The Operations and Consular Affairs Directorate at the Ministry of Foreign and Expatriates Affairs is following up on details related to the killing of two Jordanian citizens who had been recruited to fight with the Russian army.

Ministry Spokesperson Fuad Al-Majali said the ministry is closely monitoring cases in which Jordanian citizens are being lured by foreign entities for illegal recruitment an act that constitutes a violation of Jordanian law and international law, and exposes citizens to serious danger.

Al-Majali urged citizens to report any attempts to recruit them into the Russian army and warned against engaging with such offers due to the life-threatening risks involved and the legal violations they entail.

He added that the ministry has requested the Russian authorities to stop recruiting Jordanians and to terminate the service of any Jordanian citizen already enlisted in the Russian armed forces, emphasizing that the ministry will take all available measures to halt this practice.

The ministry also warned of entities operating online to recruit Jordanians, stressing that it is monitoring these groups in coordination with national institutions in order to take all necessary legal and diplomatic actions against them.

The ministry reaffirmed that deceiving Jordanians and recruiting them into a foreign army is a serious breach of international law, international obligations, and Jordanian legislation, which criminalizes joining foreign armed forces.
