Amman, Nov 29 (Petra) – Prime Minister Jafar Hassan on Saturday launched the Amra City project, a model of new urban development and long-term management of population growth is in line with sustainability and modernity standards that opens up promising investment and economic opportunities. The Amra City project, the nucleus of a model future city for youth and the next generation, was launched with thorough organization and development phases spanning over 25 years, transcending successive governments. It started upon a directive by His Majesty King Abdullah II to the government in the Royal Letter of Designation to continue "this pivotal project, given its role in alleviating pressure on the cities of Amman and Zarqa through partnerships with the private sector, and the significant economic, investment, and social dimensions it offers, which align with the economic modernization vision goals, within the pillar of quality of life." During his visit to the site of Amra City project today, the Prime Minister reviewed planned projects in the first phase, which will be built on an area of 40,000 dunums, out of a total of half a million dunums. The Jordanian Company for Developing Cities and Facilities will oversee and facilitate the implementation phases, with work staring early next year through to 2029. Upon completion, Amra City will not be a new capital or administrative center, but it is designed to meet the future population needs of the Kingdom, particularly in the cities of Amman and Zarqa, whose combined population is expected to reach 11 million within 25 years if population growth continues at the rate of the past decade. The project pre-determines land uses of all types investment, educational, commercial, industrial, service, residential, and tourism in a sustainable manner that aligns with the master plan and future updates. Amra City is a green city initiative that offers opportunities for experts and young people to participate in developing a model city of the future, providing modern housing and service alternatives, utilizing up-to-date environmental and technological advancements, clean energy, and public transport. To this end, an advisory board will be formed, comprised of distinguished and proactive young people in architecture, arts, environment, energy, real estate development, sustainability, public transport, and technology, who leave a clear mark on this exemplary national project for the future. The first phase of the project includes allocating land for productive investment projects, including an international exhibition and conference center, and an integrated sports city featuring an international football stadium and an adjacent Olympic complex, as well as halls equipped to Olympic standards for various sports, such as basketball, handball, volleyball, martial arts, tennis courts, athletics facilities, and a motor racing track. It also includes the establishment of an environmental park on an area of ??no less than 1,000 dunums, a state-of-the-art entertainment city, commercial and service areas, an educational city, and a technology center for investment in the education sector. In addition, museums and facilities for cultural events will be designated, including an expansion of the Royal Automobile Museum. These projects will be financed through foreign and local investment and will be implemented on 40,000 dunums of approximately half a million dunums, all of which are state-owned land. The land for the project has been allocated to the Jordan Investment Fund, which established the Jordanian Company for Developing Cities and Facilities, as its development arm. According to preliminary studies, the projects in the first phase will provide thousands of job opportunities and will have a vital impact on the contracting, construction, trade, building industries, transportation, tourism, and other sectors, positively stimulating growth. The Amra City project will be connected to the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) system upon completion of the first phase by the end of 2029, solidifying its role as a vital hub for living, working, and transport, and enhancing its long-term competitiveness. The Jordan Urban Development Company will oversee and facilitate the project's phases, present opportunities, engage with investors, and build partnerships to attract local and foreign investment to it. Investment will be aligned with the master plan and subject to regulatory frameworks that will be announced in the coming months. A partial public offering of shares in the project will be considered after the completion of the first phase, allowing citizens of all segments of society to benefit from "this national investment." The Amra City project boasts a strategic location on international highways connecting Jordan with Saudi Arabia, Syria, and Iraq. It is also 40 km from downtown Amman and 35 km from both Zarqa and Queen Alia International Airport. Ten percent of the land in the project will be allocated to the Jordan Armed Forces, who will contribute to the development work and infrastructure through the Engineering Corps. In addition to launching the first phase of the project, 20,000 dunums of state-owned land adjacent to the site will be allocated to the Housing and Urban Development Corporation for development and planning purposes, specifically housing for employees, retirees, and Muwaqqar district residents. //Petra//SS
