  17/ Jordan, Palestine ministers discuss food security, agricultural aid for Gaza

Amman, Nov 29 (Petra) Minister of Agriculture Saeb Khraisat and his Palestinian counterpart Rizq Salmiya met on Saturday to discuss ways to enhance cooperation aimed at raising the efficiency of joint operations and achieving food security between the two sides.

During the meeting, the ministers emphasized the importance of continuing coordination regarding technical measures and developing sustainable mechanisms for joint work. They discussed the items of the agricultural calendar and the exchange of crops and agricultural products, specifically in the vegetable and fruit sectors, in addition to cooperation in livestock matters.

Khraisat expressed Jordan's readiness to provide its expertise in water harvesting, earthen dams, and horizontal storage facilities to serve the Palestinian side.

For his part, Salmiya praised Jordan's role in supporting the stability of the Palestinian agricultural sector and strengthening the food security system. He noted the importance of integration between Jordan and Palestine in various agricultural fields, highlighting the role of the Regional Food Security Observatory in developing food security policies.

The meeting also addressed mechanisms to activate and develop the operations of the Jordanian-Palestinian Agricultural Products Marketing Company (JPACO), a move intended to bolster marketing efforts and open new markets for products from both countries.

Both sides also discussed key needs and challenges facing the Gaza Strip, particularly regarding veterinary medicines, stressing the necessity of finding urgent solutions to support farmers and contribute to efforts for the agricultural reconstruction of the enclave.
