24/ Central Badia Residents hail Amra City launch as catalyst for jobs, investment, sustainable growth
Amman, Nov. 29 (Petra) – Residents of the Central Badia expressed appreciation for the launch of Amra City, describing it as an integrated, modern urban project with broad investments that will create jobs, support sustainable development in Al-Muwaqqar District and surrounding areas, and accommodate population growth. They told the Jordan News Agency (Petra) the project is expected to attract domestic and foreign investment and establish a new economic environment capable of serving local communities and generating high-quality employment opportunities. They stressed that Amra City will transform the area and bolster the national economy. MP Suleiman Al-Zaben told Petra the government is taking "serious and tangible steps" in launching Amra City and moving ahead with the first phase of its projects. He said the plan reflects a clear long-term development vision and establishes an urban model based on creating an integrated residential and developmental city implemented over a 25-year timeline. Al-Zaben said the government has demonstrated its ability to prepare the area and plan the infrastructure required for major projects. He noted that the master plan includes extensive development amenities such as a full-scale sports city, an educational district, technology centers, museums, restaurants, and open green spaces, making the project cross-governmental and capable of generating lasting economic impact. He added that the project will directly benefit the people of the Central Badia and Al-Muwaqqar District, as each development phase will introduce new job opportunities in construction, services, and economic, sports, and educational facilities. Al-Zaben said dividing development into five-year phases allows residents to prepare in advance by gaining skills required for future project needs. "Anyone without a trade today can acquire one in the years leading up to each phase," he said, adding that local residents have a "golden opportunity" to build new skillsets aligned with the city’s job market. He praised the government's decision to launch the project with such clarity of vision, stressing that the city will attract national and foreign investment and create a new economic environment offering high-quality jobs, especially in technology and education both core pillars of the project. Former Al-Muwaqqar mayor Awad Al-Jbour said Amra City represents a major development shift for the district and surrounding areas. He said any project of this scale will advance the region and support the national economy, noting that Al-Muwaqqar "truly needs projects that stimulate development and create broad employment." Al-Jbour commended the government's choice of location, calling it "well-judged" and reflective of a clear vision for planned urban expansion and the creation of new built-up areas from scratch. "The people of Al-Muwaqqar welcome this decision because it will bring significant benefits to our region and its residents," he said. He added that the wide desert area designated for the project is suitable for establishing a fully integrated city with advanced urban and environmental services. Its proximity to Al-Muwaqqar just 10 to 15 minutes away will, he said, stimulate economic activity and attract investment. He noted that Al-Muwaqqar is home to about 100,000 people and faces high unemployment, particularly among university and postgraduate degree holders. He stressed the importance of prioritizing hiring from the local population given their proximity to the project and lower transportation costs. Al-Jbour said the new city, as announced by the government, will not be limited to housing and roads but will include sports facilities, youth projects, and economic investments that will directly benefit the region. Prime Minister Jaafar Hassan launched Amra City on Saturday, presenting it as a new model for urban development and long-term population management that aligns with sustainability standards and modernity and opens promising economic and investment opportunities. The project is the nucleus of a future city tailored to the needs of youth and the next generation, with development phases stretching across 25 years and transcending government cycles. It is being implemented in line with directives from His Majesty King Abdullah II, who emphasized the project’s role in easing pressure on Amman and Zarqa and boosting economic opportunities in line with the Economic Modernization Vision. //Petra// AF
