30/ Athletes Say Amra City Project Boosts Investment in Sports Sector
Amman, Nov. 29 (Petra) – Athletes described the Amra City project as a transformative development in Jordan’s sports and youth infrastructure, presenting an advanced model of integrated sports cities with programs designed to cultivate talent. Speaking to Petra, experts said the project will boost investment in the sports sector in line with Jordan’s vision for economic modernization and sustainable development. It will provide an attractive environment for youth, training and development spaces, and event management facilities, all built to modern environmental standards. Jihad Al-Qutishat, Deputy of His Royal Highness Prince Faisal at the Jordan Olympic Committee, called the Amra City project one of the most important national investments in youth infrastructure. He described it as a strategic step to strengthen Jordan’s capacity to host sports and community activities according to modern standards aligned with the country’s modernization vision. Al-Qutishat added that the project goes beyond a new facility, forming a comprehensive platform for development that combines training, qualification, community services, and opportunities for a new generation of talent to benefit from a modern and sustainable environment. He emphasized that the city will support the national sports system by providing advanced training and preparation facilities, easing the burden on federations and clubs, and enabling long-term strategic planning. The project is expected to directly enhance youth participation, expand sports programs, create opportunities for public-private partnerships, and stimulate economic and tourism activity in the region. Former footballer and media professional Muhannad Mahadin said Amra City represents an institutional transformation in sports sector management. He noted that having integrated facilities within a comprehensive master plan positions sports in its proper economic framework and ensures long-term sustainability beyond the short-term approaches of previous decades. Mahadin explained that the project offers a new model of sports governance by linking infrastructure with long-term development programs, allowing the sector to operate along a complete talent development chain from discovery to professional level, with equipped facilities and standardized criteria ensuring performance quality across sports. He added that the project will enable universities to launch academic programs serving the sports industry, alongside scholarships abroad for advanced studies in sports facility management. The project’s scale requires event management, crowd management, corporate partnership oversight, and specialized sports marketing, all adhering to environmentally friendly standards to ensure long-term efficiency and sustainability. National coach Issa Turk described the project as a strategic step to strengthen Jordan’s national sports system. He said its significance extends beyond creating modern facilities to building an integrated environment that allows youth to develop physical and technical skills in high-standard facilities, enhancing their readiness for local and international competitions and improving the discovery of emerging talent. Turk noted that involving youth in the design and development of sports facilities is a key aspect of the project, giving the new generation opportunities to implement their ideas and initiatives, fostering responsibility for sports development in Jordan, and refining leadership and management skills through projects with sustainable community impact. He added that the project encourages a cultural shift in sports among youth, integrating training programs and regular sporting events to promote early engagement, create a broad base of talented athletes, encourage a healthy and active lifestyle, and attract sports investments and innovative youth initiatives. Amra City is a comprehensive national model linking urban planning, sports development, youth education, economic investment, and sustainable development projects, serving as a hub for talent and sports partnerships nationally and internationally, reflecting Jordan’s vision of promoting sports and youth as pillars of national development. //Petra// AF
