Amman, Oct. 9 (Petra) -- The Jordanian-Rwandan Joint Committee concluded its first session in Kigali, Rwanda, with discussions focused on deepening bilateral cooperation, particularly in trade, investment, and economic development.

The meetings were co-chaired by Minister of Industry, Trade and Supply, Yarub Qudah, and Rwanda’s Minister of Trade and Industry, Prudence Sebahizi. The agenda included a range of topics aimed at capitalizing on opportunities in both countries and strengthening economic relations.

Qudah highlighted that the committee’s convening follows the high-level royal visit to Kigali in 2024, underlining both nations’ commitment to expanding cooperation in areas such as commerce, investment, and private sector engagement. He emphasized the importance of encouraging exhibitions and diversifying Jordanian exports to the Rwandan market.

Qudah also announced that Jordan and Rwanda have agreed to begin negotiations on a preferential trade agreement, which is expected to significantly boost bilateral trade and enhance Jordanian exports to Rwanda.

Minister Sebahizi underscored the strong ties between the two countries and stressed the importance of such meetings in creating pathways for broader and more dynamic economic partnerships. He affirmed Rwanda’s readiness to strengthen collaboration with Jordan in key sectors such as trade, agriculture, transport, tourism, and investment.

Several memorandums of understanding and agreements were signed during the session, covering tourism, culture, food and drug regulation, standards and metrology, and environmental cooperation.

The session concluded with the signing of the official minutes, summarizing the agreements and recommendations made during the preparatory meetings. These were led by Dana Al-Zoubi, Secretary General of Jordan’s Ministry of Industry, Trade and Supply, and her Rwandan counterpart, Antoine Kajangwe.

It was agreed that the second session of the Joint Committee will be held in Amman next year to follow up on the outcomes and further advance bilateral cooperation.
