Amman, October 11 (Petra) - Minister of Health Dr. Ibrahim Badour held a series of bilateral meetings with a number of his Muslim counterparts, while chairing the Conference of Health Ministers of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), hosted by Jordan, Amman, from October 7-9.

According to a statement by the Ministry of Health on Saturday, Badour met with Ministers of Health of Syria, Dr. Musab El-Ali, Malaysia, Dr. Dzulkefly Ahmad, Somalia, Dr. Ali Haj Adam, Yemen, Dr. Qasim Mohammed Buhaibeh, Brunei, Dr. Al-Haj Mohammed Isham, and Gambia, Dr. Ahmadu Samateh. He also met with Pakistani Minister of State Malik Bharath.

During the meetings, the ministers discussed ways to enhance bilateral cooperation and exchange expertise in the fields of healthcare, disease prevention, and medical personnel training, as well supporting joint efforts to address health challenges in Islamic countries.

In his meeting with Syrian health minister, Badour emphasized the "deep-rooted, brotherly" bilateral relations, noting Jordan's keenness to enhance health cooperation with Syria, particularly in the areas of exchanging expertise and training medical personnel.

The two sides also went over the possibility of signing agreements to implement this collaboration soon.

The statement indicated that discussions with the ministers also addressed cooperation prospects in the medical tourism field.

Badour noted importance of this vital sector and its role in promoting health and economic integration among Islamic countries.

Badour noted that the Kingdom is a "regional leader in providing medical and therapeutic services to patients from various countries, thanks to its advanced infrastructure and highly qualified medical personnel."

During the meetings, Badour underlined the Kingdom's keenness to strengthen joint Islamic action in the health sector and its commitment to its regional role in supporting and developing health systems in brotherly countries.

Badour called for coordinating efforts and exchanging the best practices among OIC member states.

For their part, the ministers expressed their appreciation for Jordan's efforts in hosting the conference and its prominent role in the health sector.

The ministers also stressed their desire to expand cooperation with the Kingdom and benefit from its "advanced" health experience, mainly in the medical tourism sector, which is witnessing "growing" interest and represents an important driver to enhancing cooperation among the Islamic countries.
