Amman, Oct. 12 (Petra) – The Ministry of Public Works and Housing on Sunday began installing speed bumps, road markings, and traffic signs along Petroleum Road in Irbid Governorate, aiming to reduce traffic accidents, control speeding, and ensure the safety of road users.

The ministry said in a statement that it is working to improve the condition of the road despite it not falling under its jurisdiction. The road, which is not expropriated, was built in the mid-20th century to serve the Tapline project and connects the districts of Koura, Northern Ghor, Taybeh, Bani Ubaid, and Irbid’s city center.

It added that the road had previously been widened to eight meters, up from three, and has been regularly equipped with warning signs and traffic markings.

The ministry noted that there are no indicators or figures showing a higher rate of accidents on this road compared to others, pointing out that traffic studies indicate most accidents are caused by speeding and improper overtaking.

According to a study prepared for the road, speed cameras will be installed in the coming period to reduce speeding and accidents, and a roundabout will be constructed under the 2026 budget at the "Petroleum Triangle," also known as "Al-Jaabi Triangle," to ease traffic flow and improve road safety.
