37/ Jordan, EU Discuss Water Cooperation During Cairo Water Week
Amman, Oct. 13 (Petra) – Minister of Water and Irrigation Raed Abu Soud and European Commissioner for Environment, Water Resilience and a Competitive Circular Economy Jessika Roswall discussed cooperation on ongoing programs and projects with the EU and ways to enhance and accelerate their implementation. According to a Ministry statement, the meeting, held on the sidelines of the 8th Cairo Water Week and attended by Secretary-General of the Jordan Valley Authority Hisham Haisa, highlighted the importance of strengthening cooperation and continuing water projects to improve service levels across all regions of the Kingdom. Abu Soud affirmed the ministry's commitment to constructive cooperation and benefiting from European expertise in water and sanitation. He noted that the collaboration has helped improve service quality, manage scarce water resources, expand access for Jordanians and address climate change challenges. The Minister outlined Jordan's efforts in utilizing treated wastewater and projects to secure new water sources, including the national water carrier project, while noting ongoing pressures on the sector.
