  40/ Sharm El-Sheikh summit for peace starts 

Cairo, October 13 (Petra) The Peace Summit was launched today in Sharm El-Sheikh, Egypt, with participation from 31 countries, international and regional organisations.

The summit aims to establish a permanent framework to address both the ongoing conflict in Gaza and broader efforts to achieve lasting peace in the Middle East.

His Majesty King Abdullah II is presiding the Jordanian delegation participating in the summit, which is being held in under joint chairmanship of Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi and US President Donald Trump.

Also attending are key leaders including Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas, Emir of Qatar Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer, French President Emmanuel Macron, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdo?an, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni and United Nations Secretary-General Ant?nio Guterres.

The summit reflects a global shift in the international community’s approach, seeking to transform the humanitarian truce in Gaza into a comprehensive political process.

The goal is to lay the foundations for security, enable reconstruction and manage the transitional phase in the Gaza Strip. Participants emphasise that any sustainable solution must include innovative measures to prevent a recurrence of violence.
