46/ Environment Ministry Probes Fish Deaths in Mujib Dam, Says Water Conditions ‘Normal’
Amman, Oct. 13 (Petra) The Ministry of Environment said on Monday it continues to take immediate measures to address the death of a number of fish in Mujib Dam, in coordination with all relevant authorities. The ministry said it collected "emergency samples" from the dam’s water for laboratory testing at the Royal Scientific Society and Aqaba International laboratories and will announce the results once available. In a statement, the ministry said its teams conducted intensive field inspections on Sunday and Monday, covering all inlets, outlets and surroundings of the dam. Additional water samples were collected, the ministry said, adding that the inspections showed the environmental conditions in the dam were "very normal," with no signs or odors indicating pollution. It noted that a small number of dead fish, mostly of small size, were detected, and samples were collected for laboratory testing. The ministry reaffirmed it will announce the test results as soon as they are available to ensure the safety of the dam’s ecosystem and the quality of its water. //Petra// AF
