21/ JCC hosts regional symposium to promote constitutional justice
Amman, Oct.16 (Petra) – Jordan Constitutional Court (JCC) held a regional symposium on the institutional frameworks for operations of constitutional courts and councils, in cooperation with the Rule of Law Program in the Middle East and North Africa – Konrad Adenauer Foundation. Held in Amman, the two-day event will see participation of presidents and members of constitutional and supreme courts in Egypt, Iraq, Lebanon, Morocco, and Palestine, according to a JCC statement. On other goals, the symposium will discuss constitutional courts' powers, focusing on interpretation of constitutional texts and limits, as well as these bodies' jurisdiction in electoral disputes under the principle of power-centered separation and mechanisms to appoint their members and immunities. Concluding the event, several outcomes and recommendations will be presented to strengthen performance of the constitutional judiciary, given its important roles in preserving rights, freedoms, and constitutional principles. The event, which comes within the framework of promoting exchange of relevant pan-Arab expertise, seeks to consolidate constitutional justice. //Petra// AG
