25/ Jordan, France Discuss Environmental, Climate Cooperation

Amman, Oct. 16 (Petra) -- Minister of Environment Ayman Suleiman and French Ambassador to Jordan Franck Gellet on Thursday discussed ways to enhance bilateral cooperation in environmental protection and climate action.

The two sides reviewed France’s strategic projects in Jordan, particularly those implemented through the French Development Agency (AFD) in the water sector, and their role in supporting national efforts to achieve environmental sustainability and improve water resource management.

According to a ministry statement, the meeting also addressed preparations for launching the Environment and Climate Month, organized by the Ministry of Environment and the French Embassy in cooperation with several embassies, international organizations, and civil society institutions.

The event is scheduled to officially open on October 27 under the patronage of the environment minister.

Suleiman called for strengthening the Jordanian-French partnership in environmental protection and sustainable development, which serves as "a model" of international cooperation based on knowledge exchange and support for national initiatives to mitigate the effects of climate change.

He said Jordan is "committed" to implementing its environmental and climate strategies and values the support of international partners in developing projects that promote water and environmental security and advance the green economy.

Gellet, in turn, praised the "close" cooperation between France and Jordan in the environmental field, noting the 10th anniversary of the Paris Agreement in 2025 presents an opportunity to renew France’s commitment to supporting Jordan’s climate initiatives and enhancing its resilience to climate change impacts.
