6/ Petra is More Beautiful: 48 Activities Revitalize the Rose-Red City

Petra, Sept. 17 (Petra) -- In the rose-red city that has captured the imagination of travelers for centuries, a new initiative is breathing life into its ancient stones. The "Petra is More Beautiful" campaign, launched at the end of August, has already delivered 48 activities designed to polish the city’s image and uplift its communities.

From sweeping clean the main trail into the archaeological wonder to restoring the shrine of Prophet Haroun and repainting its iconic dome, the project blends reverence for heritage with modern improvements.

Roads have been repaired, potholes filled, and stormwater drains laid, while irrigation canals and water ponds were cleaned to support local agriculture. Even the city’s nightscape is changing, with new LED lighting networks cutting energy use and brightening Petra’s streets.

But this initiative is more than stone and infrastructure. Local volunteers, Authority staff, and even schoolchildren have taken part in campaigns and awareness activities, forging a shared sense of responsibility toward Petra’s beauty. Fares Al-Braizat, Chairman of the Board of Commissioners, called it a sustainable model of development, one that unites environmental protection, infrastructure upgrades, and community spirit.

With every brushstroke, every repaired road, and every lit pathway, Petra is not just preserved, it is renewed. The initiative ensures that the world-famous UNESCO World Heritage Site continues to shine, not only as a monument of the past but as a living, thriving city that tells Jordan’s story with pride.
