23/ Jordan Surveys Southern Sites for New Dams to Boost Water Security

Amman, April 4 (Petra) -- Secretary-General of the Jordan Valley Authority Hisham Al-Haisa conducted a field tour on Saturday across southern governorates, accompanied by members of the National Dams Committee and officials from the authority, to assess water conditions and study proposed sites for new dams.

Al-Haisa said the tour is part of efforts to evaluate water needs in the south and enhance flood protection, amid mounting challenges facing the water sector. He added that the initiative falls within a national plan aimed at strengthening water resources and achieving long-term sustainability.

The visit included inspections of several candidate sites for dam construction, where technical characteristics were reviewed in preparation for completing feasibility studies to determine their suitability for water harvesting projects.

The National Dams Committee said the field visits represent a key step in sound planning for dam projects, providing accurate on-the-ground assessments to support decisions based on scientific and technical criteria.

The tour is part of ongoing efforts by the Jordan Valley Authority, in coordination with relevant entities, to enhance water infrastructure across the kingdom, contributing to agricultural and economic development and improving services for citizens.
