29/ Jordan, EU sign two agreements to support tourism, heritage preservation

Amman, April 7 (Petra) – The European Union and Jordan's Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities signed two agreements on Tuesday aimed at promoting sustainable tourism and preserving cultural heritage across several regions of the Kingdom.

According to an EU press release, the first agreement titled "Reviving Culture and Building the Future: Sustainable Tourism and Heritage Preservation in Jerash and Balqa" will be implemented in Jerash and Balqa.

It seeks to strengthen the preservation of heritage sites while creating sustainable economic opportunities for local communities through youth training, support for tourism-related projects and the development of tourist routes.

The second agreement, titled "Sustainable Empowerment in Cultural Heritage Preservation (RISE)", will be implemented in Mukawir in Madaba and Rahab in Mafraq.

It focuses on supporting community-driven initiatives in cultural heritage and sustainable tourism, while promoting local economic development, skills enhancement and the visibility of tourism destinations.

The EU stated that the two agreements are expected to strengthen heritage preservation capabilities, improve local tourism services and boost income generation.

They would highlight Jordan's rich cultural heritage, contributing to more inclusive and sustainable local economies, with an emphasis on environmental sustainability and community engagement.
