21/ Senate committee approves 2026 Education Draft Law

Amman, April 14 (Petra) – The Senate's Education Committee on Tuesday greenlit the 2026 draft Education and Human Resources Development Law, as sent from the Lower House of Representatives.

The endorsement came during a meeting held by the committee on Tuesday, chaired by Dr. Wajih Owais, and attended by the Minister of Education and Higher Education, Dr. Azmi Mahafzeh.

Advising a new amendment, the committee said the experts mentioned in Clause (11) of Paragraph (a) of Article (9) should include Director of the National Center for Human Resources Development and a representative from UNRWA.

As for its rationale, the draft law aims to orchestrate the competent authorities tasked to oversee and run the Kingdom's education and human resources development system.

This vision would support and develop education at all levels and build "a modern structure for the education system that makes the transition between its stages more efficient, comprehensive, and seamless."

The bill aims to raise learning quality, in accordance with national and international standards, improve its outcomes, and enhance its competitiveness, within priorities focused on scientific research, innovation, and sustainability, while also guaranteeing the right to free education at the primary level.

The draft also focuses on developing skills of the national workforce and enhancing its employability in the local and global labor market.

To achieve this goal, the bill seeks to align educational outcomes with development needs and strengthen the autonomy of Jordanian universities and promote their decentralized management.
