29/ Minister urges proactive steps to secure summer water needs

Amman, April 15 (Petra) – Minister of Water and Irrigation, Raed Abu Soud, called for implementing His Majesty King Abdullah II's directives to the government, in line with the Economic Modernization Vision and the 2023-2040 Water Sector Strategy.

He stressed the need to activate the 2026 summer plan to improve level of services provided to citizens nationwide, streamline procedures, and deliver "efficient" performance to reflect the sector's image.

Abu Soud also urged steps to "promptly" address any complaints sent to the Water Complaints Center without delay.

During a virtual meeting held Tuesday, with secretaries-general, company directors, water managers, technicians, water distributors, and all employees across the Kingdom, Abu Soud called for responding "seriously and responsibly to any citizen feedback with the utmost professionalism".

He also stressed urged direct communication with citizens in the field, as well as following up on their feedback, and conducting regular inspections and surveys of areas during water distribution cycles.

He said this effort would ensure service quality, address malfunctions and complaints related to leaks and sewage problems, and guarantee a consistent water supply.

Abu Soud called for listening to citizens with a "high degree of responsiveness and addressing their needs, maintaining continuous field contact to serve citizens, respond quickly to complaints received at distribution and complaint centers, and effectively reduce response times."

Addressing the event, he urged officials to grant the necessary authority to workers to complete their tasks without needing to refer back to headquarters.

He said this mandate would expedite processing of citizens' transactions and claims.

He pointed to the efforts made in reducing water loss, providing new sources, and advancing national projects.

These milestones represent a national contribution to achieving the Kingdom's water security and reducing encroachments on resources, he pointed out.

He also called for controlling encroachments on water sources and taking deterrent legal measures against violators to protect citizens' interests.

Urging citizens to cooperate with water sector workers, he said the public can report any observations or complaints through the unified complaints center at 117116.
