44/ Crown Prince highlights eco-tourism’s role in empowering local communities
Irbid, April 22 (Petra) His Royal Highness Crown Prince Al Hussein bin Abdullah II on Wednesday joined activists specialising in eco-tourism and domestic tourism on a nature walk at Yarmouk Forest Reserve in Irbid. During the walk, the Crown Prince emphasised the importance of developing eco-tourism and its role in empowering local communities, highlighting the role of eco-tourism activists in showcasing Jordan’s natural and tourist sites, and the need for citizens to protect and preserve them, while maintaining their cleanliness. His Royal Highness listened to the participants’ experiences in the fields of environmental awareness and conservation, exploration, adventure, and the creation of heritage content. The Crown Prince also observed some of the biodiversity found in the reserve, which was announced as a protected area in 2010 by the Royal Society for the Conservation of Nature, covering an area of 20 square kilometres and home to more than 546 plant species. Yarmouk Forest Reserve features walking trails and eco-lodges set amongst its forests and mountainous terrain; it serves as an important migration corridor for birds and is home to dozens of animal species. //Petra// AF
