19/ Local Administration Ministry, Green Climate Fund discuss expanding climate finance access

Amman, April 23 (Petra) -- Minister of Local Administration, Walid Masri, discussed with the Green Climate Fund (GCF) Regional Manager for the Middle East and North Africa, Amgad Elmahdi, ways to enhance cooperation on climate action and facilitate access to climate finance to support sustainable development projects in municipalities and local communities.

The meeting, held on Thursday and attended by Cities and Villages Development Bank General Manager Waseem Haddad, focused on strengthening financing mechanisms for priority climate projects.

Masri underscored the bank’s strategic role as the first nationally accredited entity for direct access to the GCF, positioning it as a key platform for mobilizing climate finance and developing and implementing projects aligned with national priorities. He said this supports Jordan’s efforts to adapt to climate change and mitigate its impacts.

He added that the bank continues to prepare and develop investment proposals and programs in coordination with national partners to enhance project readiness and expand the pipeline of climate initiatives eligible for international funding, in line with national development priorities.

Elmahdi highlighted the bank’s growing role as a partner of the GCF in Jordan, praising its progress from institutional readiness to project development and implementation, which helps maximize access to climate finance and support development initiatives.
