14/ Tax department urges taxpayers to benefit from settlement extension

Amman, April 27 (Petra) – The Income and Sales Tax Department (ISTD) on Monday urged taxpayers and companies with outstanding financial obligations due by December 31, 2024, to take advantage of expanded tax settlement opportunities under a cabinet decision to extend the work of the Tax Settlement and Reconciliation Committee until June 30, 2026.

The department called on those concerned to submit settlement requests on its website to benefit from facilities and exemptions based on criteria approved by the Cabinet. The decision allows for settlements in tax files for which final judicial rulings have been issued, with the exception of tax evasion cases.

The settlement includes income tax claims regardless of the claim amount, with the exception of cases for which a final court ruling has been issued concerning tax evasion, the department said in a statement.

Settlement or installment requests are submitted electronically through a form on the department's website, free of charge, whether submitted by the taxpayer or their representative, it said.

The ISTD said the decision is to enable companies, establishments, and taxpayers to settle their accumulated tax obligations from previous years and clear their tax liability. It also aims to stimulate the economy, alleviate financial burdens, achieve fairness, expand the base of beneficiaries of settlements, and enable those wishing to resolve their outstanding claims and strengthen their financial positions, said the department.
