20/ Agriculture minister says food security a 'cornerstone' to address evolving challenges
Amman, April 28 (Petra) – Minister of Agriculture, Dr. Saeb Khraisat, met on Tuesday at the Royal Police Academy with students enrolled in the Master's program participating in advanced courses on the agricultural sector. The event was part of a series of discussions, aimed at "better networking" academia and the state's executive policies. According to a statement from the Ministry of Agriculture, Khraisat thoroughly highlighted of the concept of food security, as a "key pillar of national security, particularly amid rapidly evolving regional and global challenges." Reviewing the key challenges facing the region, he stressed the importance of proactive planning to address global crises and climate change. The meeting tackled several strategic topics, mainly the National Food Security Strategy, the ministry-implemented plans to enhance "efficiency" of local production and reduce the food gap, and sustainability of resources through the effective management of water and agricultural land to ensure the rights of future generations. Focusing on importance of technology and innovation, he highlighted the role of scientific research and alumni students in introducing modern technologies, mainly smart agriculture, which contributes to enhancing "resilience" of the agricultural sector and its ability to face future challenges. In an open dialogue with the participants, Khraisat said the ministry welcomes cooperation with researchers. "National strategies are incomplete without accurate scientific input from the younger generation of specialists, ensuring the sustainability of resources and protecting the national food system," he pointed out.
