21/ Call opens for sustainable community tourism project in Petra, Wadi Rum
Petra, April 28 (Petra) -- The Petra Development and Tourism Region Authority (PDTRA) in cooperation with the Jordan River Foundation and the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), announced on Tuesday the opening of registration for participation in the "Local Communities and Sustainable Tourism in Petra and Wadi Rum" project, funded by the Italian Agency for Development Cooperation. According to a statement, the project aims to enhance the sustainability of women-led initiatives and improve income-generation opportunities through handicrafts, food production and tourism-related services, contributing to the preservation of cultural identity and local heritage in the targeted areas. The PDTRA said the project includes introductory sessions for participants, followed by the selection of beneficiaries based on specific criteria, in addition to training programs in entrepreneurship, marketing, and product design and development. The authority invited women residing in the Petra region who own existing projects or project ideas to register via the designated online form, noting that the deadline for applications is Sunday, May 3, 2026.
