34/ Abu Dhabi opens nominations for $570,000 Fatima bint Mubarak Women Sports Award
Abu Dhabi, April 28 (Petra) -- The Fatima bint Mubarak Women’s Sports Award has opened nominations for its 10th edition, inviting local and international applicants to compete for a total prize pool of 2.1 million dirhams ($570,000). The Fatima bint Mubarak Ladies Sports Academy, in coordination with the Abu Dhabi Sports Council, announced during a press conference on Tuesday that the nomination period will remain open until September 30. The winners will be honored at a ceremony scheduled for November 11. The award is held under the patronage of Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak, President of the General Women's Union, and with the support of Sheikha Fatima bint Hazza bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Chairwoman of the Academy. The highest individual prize of 1 million dirhams ($273,000) will be awarded to the Best Arab Female Athlete. Other categories, with prizes ranging from $50,000 to $100,000, include Best Emirati Female Athlete, Best Paralympic Athlete, Best Emerging Athlete, and Best Coach. Additional categories recognize excellence in sports media influence, the Best Sports Family, and the Best Team. A special "Sports Personality of the Year" award will also be granted to a prominent woman in the field, as selected by the judging panel. Known as the premier international award for women's sports hosted by the United Arab Emirates, the competition saw a record 325 applications across eight categories last year.
