44/ Ajloun Steps Up Wildfire Prevention Measures Ahead of Summer

Ajloun, April 28 (Petra) -- Authorities in Ajloun are ramping up preparations ahead of the summer season and rising temperatures to prevent forest fires through integrated plans focused on field readiness and intensified public awareness to protect forest resources and the environment.

Government institutions in the governorate have begun preventive measures by clearing dry grass along roadsides, public squares, parks, tourist sites, and forest areas, as such vegetation is a major cause of fire outbreaks and spread. Efforts also include creating firebreaks within forested areas to limit the spread of fires if they occur.

The institutions have also stepped up awareness campaigns targeting citizens, particularly picnickers, urging them to adhere to public safety measures, avoid lighting fires in forests, ensure any fires are fully extinguished before leaving, and refrain from leaving waste that could pose a risk amid high temperatures.

Ajloun Governor Nayef Al-Hadayat told Petra that raising preparedness levels and enhancing coordination among relevant authorities is essential to prevent fires and ensure rapid response if they occur, helping to limit human and material losses and protect lives and property.

He noted that the summer season sees an increase in visitors to forested and tourist areas, raising the likelihood of fires due to unsafe practices such as lighting fires or leaving flammable waste, underscoring the need for stronger preventive and awareness measures.

Director of the Ajloun Police Directorate Brigadier Mahmoud Al-Naimat highlighted the importance of preventive action and rapid response in dealing with fires, stressing the need for greater coordination among all entities to mitigate their impact.

Ajloun Civil Defence Director Colonel Alaa Al-Thubyan said a comprehensive plan has been prepared covering firefighting, ambulance and rescue services, with personnel and equipment ready to handle various incidents, alongside identifying areas most prone to fires.

Director of the Ajloun Agriculture Directorate Seitan Al-Sarhan said proactive measures include opening agricultural roads and fire lines, activating operations rooms, and launching awareness messages targeting citizens and visitors to encourage safe behaviour and protect forests.

Authorities stressed the importance of joint and volunteer efforts among official and community bodies to safeguard forests and wooded areas, ensure public safety, and preserve natural resources in Ajloun governorate.
