38/ Jordan leads regional crisis management amid global power shifts, former official says

Amman, April 29 (Petra) -- Former Deputy Prime Minister Jawad Anani stated on Wednesday that Jordan has emerged as the most successful nation in regional crisis management despite the intensifying conflicts and geopolitical shifts currently reshaping the Middle East.

Speaking at a lecture titled "Determinants of the Arab Future Amid Current International Conflicts" at the Arab Thought Forum in Amman, Anani highlighted that Jordan continues to pursue rigorous economic and administrative reforms regardless of the surrounding regional instability.

The lecture, moderated by Raad Al-Tal, Professor of Economics at the University of Jordan, addressed the internal dynamics of several Arab nations. Anani detailed the socio-economic challenges and active conflicts facing the region, expressing a long-term optimistic outlook.

"The Arab region is currently under immense pressure, but these challenges will ultimately lead us toward a brighter future," Anani said.

The former official provided an overview of the international order since the collapse of the Soviet Union in 1991, analyzing the current global political and economic landscape. He emphasized the continued centrality of oil and energy resources in shaping the world's future.

Anani further noted the strategic importance of maritime straits and corridors to the global economy, pointing out that the majority of these critical chokepoints are bordered by Arab states, granting the region significant geopolitical leverage.

In his opening remarks, Al-Tal observed that the global order is undergoing more than a mere reshuffling of priorities. He argued that the rules of international engagement are being rewritten as power balances shift and traditional alliances dissolve. He added that modern conflicts are no longer confined to traditional geography but have expanded into the realms of technology, energy, and economics.

The event, introduced by Amani Jarrar on behalf of the Forum, concluded with an extensive discussion involving policy experts and attendees regarding Jordan’s strategic positioning in the decade ahead.
