44/ UJ unveils renovated Library Street, Clock Tower plaza under campus modernization project

Amman, April 29 (Petra) -- President of the University of Jordan (UJ) Nathir Obeidat inaugurated the newly renovated Library Street and the Clock Tower plaza on Wednesday, marking a significant milestone in the university’s comprehensive "Zoning" project. The initiative aims to modernize campus infrastructure to create an interactive and student-centered academic environment.

Adnan Badran, Chairman of the University’s Board of Trustees, commended the project, describing it as a qualitative shift that aligns the university’s facilities with global standards for campus design and management. He emphasized that these developments reflect a strong institutional commitment to enhancing both the quality of education and the overall student experience, further cementing UJ's status as a leading academic institution in the region.

Obeidat noted that the renovation of Library Street and the Clock Tower plaza is part of a strategic roadmap to reshape the heart of the campus. "Investing in infrastructure enhances the quality of university life and embodies the balance between our rich academic heritage and the requirements of modernity," he stated, adding that the project is designed to provide an attractive and stimulating environment for students, faculty, and visitors.

The renovation project, spanning the area from the university’s main gate to the Clock Tower, included the installation of interlocking tiles, the creation of new green spaces and gardens, and the addition of seating areas and service facilities. Improvements were also made to the surroundings of the administration building and the Clock Tower plaza to enhance urban aesthetics while preserving the distinctive architectural identity of the university.

During the inauguration, Obeidat recognized Samsung Electronics Levant for its contribution and support toward the university’s infrastructure modernization projects. This collaboration underscores the university’s strategy of building effective strategic partnerships to support its developmental goals.

The "Zoning" initiative continues the University of Jordan’s broader push toward sustainable and modern infrastructure, following other recent upgrades to the university library and internal campus facilities.
