3/ MSF Warns Fuel, Spare Parts Restrictions Threaten Lives in Gaza
Amman, Aug. 14 (Petra)-- Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) has warned that continued restrictions on the entry of fuel and spare parts into the Gaza Strip are putting the lives of thousands of Palestinians at risk, exposing them to death and serious illness. In a statement, the organization said the price of engine oil had increased more than twentyfold over the past six months, reaching more than $1,300 per liter by the end of July, according to Russia’s RIA Novosti news agency on Friday. MSF stressed that the deliberate obstruction of essential supplies threatens the continuity of healthcare and water services and is further worsening the already dire humanitarian situation in the Gaza Strip. On Aug. 5, one of the generators at MSF’s field hospital in Deir Al-Balah broke down, forcing medical teams to impose severe restrictions on electricity consumption. Power was limited to the operating room for only the most critical cases, while radiology services were suspended and the sterilization of essential medical equipment became increasingly difficult. //Petra// MF
