Amman, Aug 17 (Petra) - Minister of Agriculture and Supreme Council for Food Security Vice President, Saeb Khreisat, chaired a meeting to follow up on the development of the second version of the Food Security Management Information System (FSMIS), and review the media materials for the "No to Food Waste" national campaign.

The meeting, attended by Department of General Statistics Director General Haider Freihat and representatives of the World Food Programme (WFP), is part of national efforts to enhance the food security system, through developing data and information management, analysis and use in planning and decision-making, in parallel with enhancing community awareness of the importance of reducing food waste and preserving resources.

Khreisat said an accurate, reliable and updated data is key to drawing up food security policies and making decisions based on evidence, stressing the importance of devising an integrated national system that allows for the collection, organization and analysis of food security data.

He commended the Department of General Statistics' efforts and the "qualitative" development of the national data and statistics system, which helped enhance the quality and reliability of a national data that meets international statistical standards and enhances confidence in national indicators.

Such development is a key pillar of the food security system, given the reference data provided by the Department of General Statistics that contributed to building indicators, measuring performance, and identifying gaps, said the minister.

For his part, Freihat, the Statistics Department's Chief, noted the partnership and institutional cooperation with the Ministry of Agriculture, stressing the importance of such cooperation in developing the data on the agricultural sector and food security system.

Also during the meeting, the World Food Program reviewed the proposed media materials for the national campaign "No to Food Waste," where participants discussed the messages and contents directed to the public and ways to enhance their impact and reach the various target groups.
