Hasa, Aug. 18 (Petra) – The Ministry of Education and Human Resources Development on Tuesday launched a pilot program for a school transportation project in the Hasa district of Tafila Governorate, providing safe and free transportation for public school students in cooperation with the private sector.

The pilot phase targets 473 students, in addition to a number of supervising teachers, Director of Education for the Tafila region Imran Lasasmeh explained.
He noted that the pilot represents an important step toward expanding the project, with its results to be evaluated before broader implementation.

The project covers the southern Badia region, including the governorates of Karak, Tafila, Ma'an and Aqaba, with the government providing free transportation to all registered beneficiaries.

Lasasmeh pointed out that the buses are equipped with safety and security features, including supervisors to accompany and monitor students, smart tracking systems, surveillance cameras and a mobile application that enables parents to follow their children's journeys.

The buses will operate one or two morning trips and two afternoon trips to ensure students are transported to and from their schools within the designated times, he added.

The project forms part of the ministry's efforts to facilitate students' access to schools, particularly in areas where residential communities are located far from educational facilities. It is also expected to improve attendance and enhance safety and security standards for school transportation.

Lasasmeh called on parents to cooperate with bus supervisors and comply with transportation regulations to support the project's success and help achieve its objective of providing safe, organized and accessible transportation for students.

In March, the Cabinet, chaired by Prime Minister Jafar Hassan, approved a nationwide school transportation project in partnership with the private sector, the first initiative of its kind in the Kingdom. The initial phase, which is set to serve about 8,000 students in 60 schools across Karak, Tafila, Ma’an and Aqaba, will gradually expand to cover other governorates.
