42/ Water ministry foils illegal tapping of main pipelines in Naour, Maan
Amman, Aug. 18 (Petra) -- Inspection teams from the Water Authority's internal control unit, in cooperation with relevant authorities, have uncovered illegal tapping on main water pipelines in the Naour/Al-Rawda area and the Al-Muhammadiyah region in Maan. According to a Ministry of Water and Irrigation statement issued Tuesday, four illegal connections were detected on major pipelines in Naour/Al-Rawda, measuring two inches and one inch in diameter. The unauthorized lines were diverting large volumes of water to supply large farms, collection wells, and residential units. Authorities disconnected the lines and filed legal reports to identify the violators and initiate legal proceedings. In the Al-Muhammadiyah area of Maan, inspectors uncovered five illegal connections on water mains used to supply storage tanks for car wash operations. Teams disconnected the taps, confiscated 12 large storage tanks and three pumps, and prepared official reports to pursue legal action. The ministry affirmed that the Water Authority, in coordination with relevant agencies, is continuing its crackdown on water theft across the kingdom to protect national water sources and enforce legal deterrence. //Petra// AF
