43/ UN envoy urges Libya to advance political process and prepare for elections

New York, Aug. 18 (Petra) -- The U.N. Security Council held a session on Libya on Tuesday, hearing a briefing from U.N. envoy Hanna Tetteh, who stressed the importance of advancing the country’s political process.

Tetteh said the political process was about restoring the state’s ability to meet the needs of its citizens, responsibly manage its resources through unified institutions, provide security, and build resilience to the social, environmental, and other risks facing the country.

"We are now at a critical stage of strengthening unified institutions and creating the conditions necessary for inclusive elections," Tetteh said. "This requires political will and a readiness by the relevant Libyan parties to compromise while prioritizing the national interest and the interests of the Libyan people across the country."
