19/ Academic year in Gaza deferred until September 19

Amman, Aug 26 (Petra) – The Palestinian Ministry of Education and Higher Education said on Wednesday it delayed the start of the 2026/2027 academic year in the Gaza Strip until September, 19.

The decision was taken after the completion of necessary arrangements and preparations, and based on an assessment of the situation in the war-ravaged enclave, it said.

Cited by the Palestinian News Agency (WAFA), the Ministry said the date was set for technical and logistical reasons due to the hot weather conditions as students are studying in tents and portable classrooms.

The decision was made in order to provide "the best possible conditions" for students to return to school and continue the educational process despite the challenges and exceptional circumstances, it said.

The ministry also said it is monitored the situation on the ground to ensure a safe and stable start to the new academic year.

The curriculum is based on expanding in-person learning opportunities, while maintaining virtual schools for those unable to attend in-person classes in Gaza, and for Gazan students abroad, particularly in Egypt, it added.
