29/ NARC, CARDNE Expand Cooperation on Rural Development

Balqa, Aug. 26 (Petra) -- The National Agricultural Research Center (NARC) and the Regional Centre on Agrarian Reform and Rural Development for the Near East (CARDNE) signed a new memorandum of understanding Wednesday, extending cooperation between the two institutions and updating areas of joint work.

Acting Director-General Zakaria Musallam inked the agreement for the NARC, alongside CARDNE Director-General Muwafaq Serhan.

The memo entails preparing joint studies and projects in agricultural and rural development, securing funding for these, and providing technical and economic consultations. It also calls for exchanging expertise and drawing on the capabilities of both sides.

Under the agreement, the two centers will deploy artificial intelligence applications in agricultural projects, particularly data analysis and decision-support, alongside training programs, seminars and specialized workshops to build the capacity of workers in related fields.

The memo opens the door to directing research expertise toward practical issues affecting farmers and rural communities, helping develop projects based on the sector's needs and priorities, Musallam said.

Sarhan said the choice of the CARDNE as a partner reflects its scientific and technical expertise, adding that the cooperation will help produce joint initiatives combining agricultural research with development experience.

The two sides will hold technical meetings to identify priority areas and agree on projects and programs to develop in the coming phase.
