39/ Nepal flash floods leave nine dead, hundreds missing
Amman, Aug. 26 (Petra) - At least nine people have died and 384 travelers, including 291 foreign nationals, remain unaccounted for after flash floods hit northern Nepal on Wednesday. The sudden flooding along the Bhotekoshi River caused widespread destruction, washing away homes, bridges, roads, and power infrastructure. The market settlements of Timure and Syaphru in the Rasuwa district suffered heavy damage. Among the missing are 105 Indian nationals, according to the Nepal Tourism Board. Authorities gathered the preliminary figures from travel agencies and are verifying details in coordination with local guides, tour operators, and security forces. Nepalese authorities launched search-and-rescue operations, though high water levels, bad weather, and severed communication links have hampered access to remote areas. //Petra// HA
