Amman, Aug. 27 (Petra) -- Jordan’s national basketball team will face the Philippines at 3:30 p.m. on Friday in its opening match of the second and decisive round of the Asian qualifiers for the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2027 at the Mall of Asia Arena in Manila.

Jordan will be seeking a positive start to the decisive round before facing Australia on Sunday in Manila as part of the fourth qualifying window.

The national team is aiming to strengthen its chances of qualifying for the World Cup for the fourth time in its history and the third consecutive edition by securing positive results in the second round.

Jordan finished the first round second in Group C with 11 points from five wins and one loss.

Teams advancing to the second round carry over their results and points from the opening stage. Jordan will play home-and-away matches against the Philippines, Australia, and New Zealand in Group E, which also includes Syria and Iran. Jordan will not face Syria or Iran again in the second round, as the three teams competed in the same first-round group.

Group F comprises Lebanon, Japan, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, South Korea, and China.

Under the qualification format, the top four teams in each group will advance to the World Cup finals, which Qatar will host next year.

Jordan prepared for the current window by competing in the William Jones Cup in Taiwan before continuing its preparations in Manila for the matches against the Philippines and Australia.

Following the Australia game, the national team will travel to Nagoya, Japan, to compete in the 20th Asian Games. Jordan won the silver medal at the previous edition in Hangzhou, China, in 2023.
