8/ Al-Salaj Gears Up for Weightlifting Competition at Asian Games
Amman, Aug. 27 (Petra) -- Jordanian weightlifter Asim Al-Salaj is intensifying preparations for the 20th Asian Games in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan, building on a career that has already delivered a historic world championship medal for the Kingdom. The Asian Games will run from September 19 to October 4, with Al-Salaj set to compete in the 110kg category on September 27 at the Nagoya Trade and Industry Center. Al-Salaj is currently undergoing an intensive training program aimed at bringing him to peak physical and technical condition ahead of his appearance at the continental event. The Jordanian is among the Kingdom’s leading weightlifters and made history in 2024 when he became the first athlete from Jordan to win a medal at a World Weightlifting Championship. He secured the milestone with a bronze medal at the 2024 World Junior Weightlifting Championships, establishing himself as one of the country’s emerging talents in the sport. National weightlifting team coach Omar Asia said preparations are progressing according to the program developed for Al-Salaj, with training intensifying as the Asian Games approach. Asia said the current program is focused on ensuring Al-Salaj reaches his highest level of physical and technical readiness and is in position to deliver a strong performance for Jordan.
