Amman, Aug. 30 (Petra) -- Her Majesty Queen Rania Al Abdullah marks her birthday on Monday, August 31, after a year of continued engagement with communities across Jordan and advocacy on education, family welfare and humanitarian issues internationally, alongside a new milestone in her family life.

For more than two decades, Queen Rania, alongside His Majesty King Abdullah II, has focused her public work on education, childhood, women’s empowerment and family well-being, while maintaining an active presence on humanitarian and development issues at the local and international levels.

This year’s birthday takes on special family significance following the arrival of two new granddaughters. HRH Princess Iman bint Abdullah II and her husband, Jameel Alexander Thermiotis, welcomed twin daughters, Talia and Rania, expanding the Royal Family and marking a new chapter for the Queen as a grandmother.

The occasion closely reflects themes that have long shaped Queen Rania’s public work, particularly her focus on the family and childhood and her emphasis on strong families, safe environments for children and access to education as foundations for stronger communities.

Over the past year, Queen Rania continued to follow initiatives and programs aimed at improving the lives of families, expanding opportunities for women and young people, supporting children, education and training, and promoting development in local communities.

Her work through the institutions and initiatives she has established and supported has maintained a focus on education, childhood development, women’s empowerment, family welfare and social protection, while backing organizations that serve local communities and seek to broaden opportunities for those most in need.

The Queen’s engagements have also included support for domestic tourism, highlighting its contribution to economic development, job creation and local communities, as well as drawing attention to Jordan’s tourism destinations and cultural and historical heritage.

During visits across the Kingdom, Queen Rania has met with citizens, local organizations and community initiatives to hear directly about their needs and priorities and review the impact of projects implemented on the ground.

Internationally, the Palestinian cause and the humanitarian crisis in the Gaza Strip remained a central focus of the Queen’s public advocacy over the past year.

Queen Rania continued to call for the protection of civilians and children, respect for international humanitarian law and a serious response to the humanitarian suffering in Gaza and Palestine.

Her international engagements have also reflected the priorities advanced by King Abdullah in Jordan’s global outreach, including defending Palestinian rights, promoting education, empowering young people and women, and strengthening international cooperation in addressing humanitarian and development challenges.

As Queen Rania marks another year, the arrival of her granddaughters, Talia and Rania, adds a personal milestone to a year shaped by continued public engagement at home and abroad, with education, family, community development and humanitarian advocacy remaining at the center of her work.
