42/ National Library Department Marks King’s 64th Birthday
Amman, Feb. 1 (Petra) - The Department of the National Library on Sunday celebrated the 64th birthday of His Majesty King Abdullah II. The celebration, sponsored by Library Director General Firas Darabah, opened with patriotic musical performances by the Jordan Armed Forces–Arab Army Band, in the presence of a large audience, participating institutions, school students, and youth initiatives. Darabah inaugurated two exhibitions at the library: a photo and national documents exhibition, and a book exhibition. They featured images documenting Jordan’s journey during the reign of His Majesty King Abdullah II, documents of national decisions, and books chronicling the history of Jordan and the Hashemite leadership and their national achievements. The event included performances by Al-Omariya School students and the Greater Amman Municipality Folk Arts Troupe, with artistic shows accompanied by national and heritage songs. The celebration, presented by Head of the Training, Development and Quality Unit at the library, Haija Al-Shamayleh, also featured a seminar attended by researchers Bakar Khazer Al-Majali, Mohammad Al-Manaseer, and Hatem Al-Quran. During the seminar, Darabah delivered a speech in which he said, "Today, we stand in pride and honor on an occasion that is not fleeting in the conscience of Jordanians, but deeply rooted in the heart and identity." He noted that His Majesty King Abdullah II led Jordan in turbulent times and amid unprecedented regional and international challenges, with His Majesty’s voice being the voice of reason, his stance that of a state, and his constant choice being Jordan first. He highlighted the national achievements realized during the King’s reign, noting that since assuming powers, His Majesty has made the Jordanian citizen the center of development, knowledge the weapon of the future, and awareness the shield of the Jordanian state. At the seminar, Al-Majali said the King was keen each year on his birthday for the occasion to have a strong impact on national education, through meetings with students or inaugurating national centers and landmarks. Al-Manaseer, for his part, reviewed the journey and achievements of the Hashemite kings from the era of the leader of the Great Arab Revolt, the late Sharif Hussein bin Ali, to His Majesty King Abdullah II. He highlighted the achievements during the King’s reign, pointing to the Amman Message and its importance as a milestone in Jordan’s history, as well as the royal messages and the national visions and principles they carried, particularly regarding youth. Al-Quran said His Majesty King Abdullah II is not merely a ruler but a distinctive national figure, noting that His Majesty carries a historical Hashemite legacy as a member of the Prophet’s household, a descendant of the House of Prophethood and a grandson of the Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him, as well as the legacy of the Great Arab Revolt. He noted that during the King’s reign, Jordanian women achieved qualitative advances in rights and initiatives that strengthened their status as partners with men in the Jordanian nation. He also spoke about His Majesty’s positions and efforts in supporting the Palestinian cause and supporting the people of Gaza, as well as his role in seeking to stop the war on Gaza and his humanitarian initiatives toward them. The celebration also included a video presentation by the Watan Youth Initiative team, highlighting achievements during the King’s reign related to youth and their empowerment. At the conclusion of the event, Darabah presented the library’s commemorative shields to all participants. //Petra// AF
