4/ PSD Urges Caution as Weather Depression Affects Kingdom
Amman, Feb. 3 (Petra)-- The Public Security Directorate (PSD) on Tuesday warned of a weather depression impacting the Kingdom, bringing a noticeable drop in temperatures and intermittent rainfall across northern regions, extending to central areas and parts of the eastern and southwestern regions. According to official meteorological forecasts, the rain may be heavy at times and accompanied by thunderstorms and hail. The PSD called on citizens to take necessary precautions, follow safe practices, and avoid valley edges, flood-prone areas, and low-lying regions particularly in the north, central parts of the Kingdom, and sections of the eastern desert. It also cautioned against attempting to cross water accumulations, whether on foot or by vehicle. Motorists were urged to drive carefully on rain-affected roads and remain alert to reduced visibility caused by blowing dust in desert areas, which may at times lead to near-zero visibility on desert highways. Additional hazards include fog and low-lying clouds over high-altitude areas. The directorate further warned of strong winds and powerful gusts accompanying the weather system, advising residents to secure objects vulnerable to being blown away. Emphasizing public safety, the PSD stressed the proper and safe use of all heating devices, advising against refueling heaters while in operation, ensuring they are turned off before sleeping, and maintaining adequate home ventilation. It also cautioned against the use of charcoal stoves due to their associated risks of suffocation. The PSD affirmed the full readiness of all its personnel to respond to emergencies and urged the public to contact the unified emergency number 911 when necessary. //Petra//WH
