42/ Planning minister, UN high commissioner for refugees discuss boosting cooperation

Amman, Feb 3 (Petra) - Minister of Planning and International Cooperation Zeina Toukan and United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees Barham Salih, in the presence of UN Resident Coordinator in Jordan Sheri Ritsema-Anderson, UNHCR Regional Director for the Middle East and North Africa Rema Jamous, and UNHCR Representative in Jordan Maria Stavropoulou, discussed ways to enhance cooperation between the Jordanian government and the agency.

According to a ministry statement on Tuesday, Toukan commended the existing cooperation between Jordan and UNHCR in providing basic services to refugees, noting the challenges resulting from declining financial resources and their direct impact on refugee support programs.

She stressed the importance of joint efforts to create conditions for the voluntary and safe return of Syrian refugees to their country.

For his part, Salih expressed appreciation for the level of coordination with the Jordanian government and Jordan's efforts in hosting refugees, providing them with basic services, and maintaining this humanitarian role.
