45/ Committee Confirms Accuracy of Recent Electricity Bills
Amman, Feb 4 (Petra) - The committee formed to review and verify complaints about high electricity bills confirmed that inspections of around 20 percent of complaints across the Kingdom found no technical errors, with meters and billing procedures deemed accurate. The committee, which includes the Royal Scientific Society, the Jordan Engineers Association, a parliamentary energy committee observer, and the Energy and Minerals Regulatory Commission (EMRC), stated on Wednesday that increases in some bills are due to changes in consumption patterns, such as moving into higher usage brackets because of current weather conditions, lower temperatures, and longer usage hours trends commonly observed under such circumstances. The committee was established following recommendations from the parliamentary Energy and Mineral Resources Committee, led by the EMRC, with participation from the Jordan Engineers Association, the Royal Scientific Society, and the parliamentary observer. The EMRC emphasized its continued commitment to transparent and responsible oversight, addressing complaints received through official channels, and implementing corrective and regulatory measures under existing legal frameworks to protect consumers’ rights and maintain the integrity of the electricity system. //Petra// AF
