23/ IEC Chief: Party Development Is Key to Forming Parliamentary Governments
Amman, Feb 7 (Petra) - Chief Commissioner of the Independent Election Commission (IEC) Musa Maaytah said the natural development of political parties is the path toward forming parliamentary governments, stressing the importance of continuing political modernization and ensuring political pluralism and program-based politics. Maaytah made the remarks during a workshop organized by the commission, entitled "Political Colors and Party Orientations," and attended by party leaders, held in cooperation with the Netherlands Institute for Multiparty Democracy, within the framework of the Support to the Democratic Reform in Jordan Program, and in partnership with the European Union. He said political parties are a key partner in the political modernization process within the framework of law enforcement, noting that there is no democracy without the application of the law. He underscored the importance of clarity in parties’ political colors and orientations at the economic, social, and political levels, according to a statement issued by the commission on Saturday. The three-day workshop, led by international expert Mohsen Marzouki, addresses several themes related to ideology, electoral party programs, models of populism, humanitarian, sovereign, and pragmatic discourse, and the importance of programs in positioning parties and ensuring their sustainability. The workshop also covers party orientations and information technology, contemporary ideological transformations, and mechanisms for translating these orientations into communicative policies. It includes practical proposals for reviewing party and ideological orientations, as well as presentations and interactive discussion sessions. //Petra// AF
