Amman, Feb. 9 (Petra) -- Jordan and Japan signed an Exchange of Notes for a Japanese grant worth ¥800 million (approximately USD 5 million) to finance the procurement of advanced medical equipment for the Jordanian Royal Medical Services (JRMS), aimed at treating patients and children evacuated from the Gaza Strip, as well as Jordanian patients, under the Japan–Jordan Economic and Social Development Program.

According to a ministry statement issued Monday, the memoranda were signed on behalf of Jordan by Minister of Planning and International Cooperation Zeina Toukan, and on behalf of Japan by Japanese Ambassador to Jordan Hideki Asari, in the presence of RMS Director General Brig. Gen. Sahl Hamouri, and officials from the Japanese Embassy in Amman.

Toukan expressed Jordan’s appreciation to the government and people of Japan for their continued support, particularly in the health sector, noting that the grant will enhance Jordan’s capacity to respond to critical and emergency cases and to provide necessary treatment for patients evacuated from Gaza as part of Jordan’s humanitarian efforts, in addition to improving medical services provided to Jordanian citizens.

For his part, Asari remarked: "This step comes in support of the Jordanian Medical Corridor initiative. The medical equipment provided will not only reinforce the capacity of the JRMS to treat patients arriving from Gaza, but will also elevate the quality of healthcare delivered to Jordanian citizens and all others who rely on JRMS facilities."
