20/ Planning Ministry Retains Status as National Implementing Entity for Climate Projects

Amman, Feb. 9 (Petra) -- The Adaptation Fund Board (AFB) has extended the accreditation of the Ministry of Planning and International Cooperation as a National Implementing Entity (NIE) until February 5, 2031.

The decision followed a comprehensive review of the ministry’s re-accreditation application, with the Accreditation Panel recommending the extension after confirming the ministry’s continued compliance with international standards for managing climate change adaptation projects. The Ministry of Planning was the first Arab institution to receive this accreditation in 2011.

Since then, it has implemented a project valued at USD 9.2 million aimed at strengthening the resilience of the most vulnerable communities to climate change impacts, achieving tangible results despite challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic and international crises.

The renewed accreditation reflects international confidence in Jordan’s institutional capacity to manage climate finance efficiently and transparently, it also enables the Kingdom to maintain direct access to international resources in support of its national priorities to address climate change.

The Adaptation Fund was established to finance adaptation projects and programs in developing countries that are parties to the Kyoto Protocol and particularly vulnerable to climate change. Managed by the Adaptation Fund Board, it requires entities seeking access to its resources to undergo a rigorous accreditation process that evaluates their adherence to fiduciary standards and social and environmental safeguards.
