21/ EU, Hareer Organization Partner to End Violence Against Women in Madaba

Madaba, Feb. 10 (Petra) -- Hareer Organization organized a workshop, themed: "Ending Violence Against Women" at the American University of Madaba.

The event was attended by Deputy Head of the EU Delegation, Angela Martini, as part of ongoing efforts to raise awareness and strengthen women’s empowerment.

Talking at the opening ceremony, Martini said gender-based violence remains one of the most widespread human rights violations globally, noting addressing this phenomenon requires coordinated global and national efforts to curb and eliminate such abuses.

She noted the European Union places combating violence against women and girls among its strategic priorities under supportive policies, legal protection, and psychological and health services, and awareness campaigns that promote respect for women’s rights.

Madaba Health Directorate Director Amani Al-Farah said violence against women is a "humanitarian, rights-based, and developmental issue that affects families and society."

Noting Jordan's special attention to the issue, she said protecting women from violence aligns with the Economic Modernization Vision as a prerequisite for productivity, justice, and equal opportunities.

In turn, Director General of Hareer Organization Nihad Dabbas called for holding awareness workshops across all governorates and universities, adding that raising awareness of gender-based violence is a "social necessity, as empowering women and girls begins with knowledge of their rights."

Acting President of the American University of Madaba Adi Arida highlighted the importance of supporting such initiatives and backing women at all levels, urging collective support and the university’s openness to steps that enhance women's participation and empowerment.
