Irbid, Feb 10 (Petra) - Former prime minister Abdul Raouf Rawabdeh said the Jordanian narrative represents the foundation for understanding national identity and consolidating a unified value system for all Jordanians. He noted that since its establishment, Jordan has been built on a clear national and pan-Arab vision that has helped cement its independent existence and strengthen its active regional role.

He made the remarks during a political seminar organized on Tuesday by the National Action Committee at the Professional Associations Complex in Irbid under the title "Views on the Jordanian Narrative," attended by former labor minister Nadia Rawabdeh and several political, cultural, and media figures.

Rawabdeh explained that the Jordanian national narrative is not limited to recounting historical facts but constitutes an intellectual and value-based system reflecting Jordan’s ability to build a stable and resilient state despite limited resources and successive regional challenges.

He said Jordan’s political and social environment was shaped through the interaction of multiple historical, geographical, and social factors that contributed to forming and consolidating the Jordanian national character.

He noted that Jordan has never been a product of circumstances or subordinate to them but has been an active party in shaping major events. He reviewed the historical roots of the state’s Arab identity, noting that the first governments were known as the "Government of the Arab East."

Rawabdeh stressed that Jordanian national identity constitutes a unifying framework for all citizens, expressing his rejection of any attempts that could undermine its unity or discriminate among citizens under any pretext.

He said serious historical documentation and consolidating the pillars of national identity do not mean isolation or withdrawal, but rather reflect a deep awareness that Jordan is an integral part of the Arab nation and remains firmly committed to its central causes.

On the Palestinian issue, Rawabdeh underscored the unity of destiny between Jordan and Palestine, saying Jordan’s position stems from a historical, political, and humanitarian partnership. He added that Jordan’s strength directly supports Palestine’s resilience and the justice of its cause.

The seminar featured extensive interventions and discussions by attendees on national identity and contemporary challenges within the framework of promoting national dialogue and reinforcing authentic Jordanian values.
