15/ January Inflation at 1.06% YoY, Up 0.17% MoM, Says DoS
Amman, Feb. 11 (Petra) -- The general Consumer Price Index (CPI), or inflation, rose 1.06% in January 2026, compared with January 2025, and edged up 0.17% from December 2025, said the Department of Statistics (DoS) on Wednesday. The DoS monthly report put the CPI at 113.42 points in January 2026, up from 112.23 points a year earlier and from 113.22 points in December 2025. On an annual basis, the main upward contributors were personal effects (38.92%), oils and fats (13.45%), tea, coffee, and cocoa (12.02%), fruits and nuts (4.23%), and tobacco and cigarettes (3.99%). Offsetting factors that helped curb the increase included meat and poultry (-9.80%), fresh and dried/canned vegetables and legumes (-6.27%), household appliances (-3.28%), and household tools (-1.07%). Month-on-month, key groups pushing the CPI higher were personal effects (5.38%), tobacco and cigarettes (3.98%), water and sewage services (3.78%), fresh and dried/canned vegetables and legumes (1.85%), and meat and poultry (0.97%), the report said. The CPI is calculated using a consumer basket of 850 items, including 325 food items and 525 non-food items, according to the DoS. //Petra// AO
